Ingredients
- 1 package phyllo dough (16 oz)
- 2 cups walnuts
- 1 cup pistachios
- 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup honey
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 teaspoon lemon zest
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 350°F.
- Finely chop the walnuts and pistachios.
- Mix the nuts with cinnamon in a bowl.
- Brush a baking pan with some of the melted butter.
- Place one sheet of the phyllo dough in the pan and brush it with melted butter.
- Repeat until you have about 8 sheets layered on top of each other.
- Sprinkle some of the nut mixture on top.
- Continue layering 4 sheets of the phyllo and brushing with butter, then add more nut mixture at the top.
- Repeat until all the nuts and dough are used up, ending with a phyllo layer.
- Cut it into diamond or square pieces.
- Bake for 40 minutes, or until it turns out golden brown.
- While it bakes, combine the sugar, honey, water, lemon zest, and vanilla extract in a saucepan. Let it simmer for 10 minutes.
- Pour the cooled syrup evenly over the hot baklava when it comes out of the oven.
- Let the baklava cool before serving.
